A low growing tropical plant found commonly throughout Asia, especially India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Vietnam growing naturally in muddy shores or wetlands. Easy to cultivate in warm (semi tropical, moist soil or swamps).
Bacopa is an very old, traditional Ayurvedic medicinal herb used for thousands of years in many situations, primarily as a nootropic brain tonic, enhancing memory and improving concentration and relieving anxiety and hyperactive attention deficit disorders. There is no known toxicity associated with the use of this plant (Van Wyk and Wink, 2014).
* In India, the common name “Brahmi” is also applied to a very different medicinal plant with similar medicinal properties, Centella asiatica, also known as “Gotu Kola.”
